$10 million loan goes to PitCo for Open Space & Trails acquisition
The Great Outdoor Colorado (GOCO) board approved a $10 million loan to Pitkin County, in partnership with the Wilderness Land Trust, on Friday. The funds will support Open Space and Trails’ purchase of Snowmass Falls Ranch, a 650-acre property outside of Snowmass Village.
Open Space and Trails entered into a contract to buy the ranch in January. The county’s goal is to transfer the property to the United States Forest Service. The loan will allow the county to acquire other pieces of land in the future.
Snowmass Tourism debuts 2024 summer lineup
The Snowmass Tourism Department announced its calendar for the 2024 season, which included new community events and the return of several local favorites.
It announced a new Summer Après series from June 12-Aug. 25 and Dog Days of Summer from July 21-Aug. 25. The Summer Après series will run from 3-6 p.m. every Wednesday through Sunday with live music on the Snowmass Mall, games, and special experiences throughout the village.
The Dog Days of Summer is a weekly community dog day where local groomers and pet stores will be on hand to provide free nail clippings and treats. There will be a do-it-yourself dog washing station and dog costumes and photo opportunities.
Returning this summer in Snowmass are Heritage Fire, the Snowmass Balloon Festival, SNowmass Wine Festival, the free concert series on Fanny Hill, and more. This summer is also the 50th anniversary of the Snowmass Rodeo.
“This summer in Snowmass is slated to be a special one,” said Julia Theisen, director of Snowmass Tourism, in a news release. “With the return of signature events Snowmass is known for, plus an emphasis on new community events, there will be countless opportunities for locals and visitors to come together to enjoy the beauty and fun of Snowmass.”
